Dr Uma Ukpai, the president and founder of Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, has said poor men of God did not receive divine calling.<br />

He also told Daily Independent that it was untrue that people resorted to Church establishment out of joblessness.<br />

According to Ukpai, “Jesus calls church business. He said, ‘I am about my father’s business’. He called church work business and what is business? Business is investment plus gain, minus loss. In church planting, no pastor can collect offering without giving account and survive. Every church has elders and the job of the elders is to make sure that account is given; it is not even publicly but given internally but the account must be given.<br />
<br />
“Church is all about investment and the gain they make is not in money but in people; that is the gain they make. People also can be called money because for instance, if a pastor’s ministry can cause 20 women to get pregnant; those women will not forget the pastor. If a pastor’s ministry can produce one of the richest 10 men in the country, those men will not forget the man who made them what they are.<br />
<br />
“When you are into ministry and you have what we call anointing, you have become profitable; you begin to touch lives; you begin to bless people; you begin to change the stories of families and your own story will change also because the man that waters others shall be watered by God. There is so much misinformation about the church. It is not all about money. If your pastor has anointing that can make the blind see, cripples walk, leprosy to disappear, that pastor is in money.<br />
<br />
“The only man you can worry about is a man who has no anointing; a man who God has rejected; a pastor who God has not approved what he is doing. God does not bless what he does not approve. If God approves what a pastor is doing, he will have more money than he can spend. I am an example.”<br />

On the forthcoming general elections vis-a-vis the challenges of Boko Haram insurgency, Ukpai said the crisis was part of Nigerian culture.<br />
<br />
“There is nothing new happening. We are used to fighting; we are used to killing and duping one another. People try to magnify little problems here and there as things that can overwhelm or swallow Nigeria. Let me tell you, we shall still be here after 2015. All these problems are old problems. Nobody has been able to manufacture new ones.<br />
<br />
“Even APC (All Progressives Congress) or PDP (Peoples Democratic Party), they have not been able to manufacture new problems. So, this country will still be here after 2015. All those stupid prophecies are from uninformed prophets, who have neither heard from nor seen God. Take it from me that this country will still be here and intact after 2015”.<br />
<br />
Commenting on attacks on Christians in some parts of the country, Ukpai said persecution had been part of the Christian calling.<br />
<br />
<br />
Quoting from the Holy Book, Ukpai pointed out that “The Bible promised us persecution; it did not say we shall not be persecuted. Secondly, persecution sharpens us and makes us pray better. I would rather have Christians persecuted than Christians not persecuted, because the more you persecute Christians, the more they will pray; the more they will seek after God. Those who seek after God shall know their God and those who know their God shall do exploit. So, in the attempt to harm us, they are sharpening us for a better and greater day.”<br />
<br />
Ukpai, however, appealed to politicians and other well-meaning Nigerians to work towards the peace, unity and prosperity of the country.<br />
<br />
His words: “We are praying for politics with principles; we are praying for politicians who have prepared themselves to serve and not to lord over us; and we are looking for politicians who are accountable to us and to themselves. But most importantly, we are asking for electorate who would not ask for bribes. Let nobody collect money to vote. If you collect money to vote, you have destroyed your moral right to account from the elected officers.<br />
<br />
“We want our politicians to know that we cannot continue to run in circle; let them show some level of maturity. Finally, every politician must respect the sacredness of human beings. Let nobody be killed because of another person’s ambition. When anybody is killed, he cannot be reproduced and because we didn’t create anybody, we don’t have the right to kill anybody. So, can our politicians try to show good measure of maturity and intelligence, fear of God and preparedness to obey the laws of the land? They behave as though there are no laws. There are laws and we must obey those laws; that is what will help us move forward and move in a manner that will bring reward to the whole nation.”

More drama has continued to unfold in the Stephanie Otobo saga as the scandal involving a Canada-based stripper and aspiring musician, Stephanie Otobo and Apostle Johnson Suleiman of Omega Fire Ministries, Auchi, sprung more surprises as the lady’s lawyer, Festus Keyamo has filed a plea to relinquish his position as counsel to Miss Otobo in court.</div>

It appears that the controversial lawyer has been given a black eye by his client as he said in his application that recent events, including his client’s confession at OFM and her subsequent refusal to play to her alleged “sponsors” script have made their continued partnership “untenable”.</div>

Keyamo also finally confessed in his plea that he has never known the address of Stephanie Otobo, a client he has been working for, since 2017. This confession by a lawyer of Keyamo’s standing has left many Nigerians wondering why he created the impression of closeness and care for his supposed client all these months.</div>

In what seems to be a killer punch, Stephanie Otobo has deposed to an affidavit distancing herself from another affidavit earlier made public by Festus Keyamo, in which she was claimed to be asking the court to examine the private parts of the Apostle via forensics.</div>

According to the new affidavit signed by Otobo, her lawyer (Festus Keyamo) deceived her by giving her a “bundle of documents” to sign, telling her that it was just papers to allow the police release her phone which was in custody at the time. Unknown to her, the lawyer refused to let her read the document because it was a scheme to submit the so-called request for forensic examination against the preacher, a move that blindsided the young lady. Keyamo of dishonesty and told the court that her alleged s*x affair with the Apostle never happened.<br />She also reaffirmed her earlier confession that she was used by <span style="font-weight: 700;">“some powerful politicians and pastors who only wanted to pull down the Man of God”.</span></div>

To find peace of mind and move on with her life, Miss Otobo said she had confessed in order to find forgiveness as her conscience had been troubled all through the saga. She also appealed to all stakeholders to let her move on with her young life so she can find her purpose for living.</div>

The revelations in this affidavit brought before the Ikeja high court and the subsequent application by Keyamo to withdraw as counsel to Miss Otobo has exposed the unethical behavior of lawyers in their quest to win cases, pull people down, deceive even their own clients, and distort facts in order to subvert justice. But it is more diminishing when it is a lawyer of Keyamo’s repute that is caught indulging in such unwholesome practices.</div>

The Apostle has vowed through his counsel to report the lawyer to the appropriate authorities including the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee. He is said to be very bitter about the manner Keyamo handled this saga and the deliberate manipulation of facts to defame his character.</div>

Prince Kassim Afegbua, the spokesman to ex-Military President Ibrahim Babangida, claimed on Friday that he has been receiving death threats from unknown quarters following his issuance of a statement asking President Muhammadu Buhari to jettison his reelection bid in 2019.<br />

The authors of the death threats are not sparing his family, Afegbua said moments after his interrogation on the statement by the Department of State Security Service (DSS).<br />
<br />
The former EdoState commissioner said in a statement in Abuja that he has been receiving phone calls threatening him and his family.<br />
<br />
But he vowed that never would he be intimidated by anyone or group for issuing the statement .<br />
<br />
<br />
He was first invited for questioning by the police on Wednesday and later by the DSS on the statement.<br />
<br />
Afegbua declared that nothing would stop him from exercising his right of free speech.<br />
<br />
His words: “In the last six days, I have gone through traumatic experience when I was declared wanted by the Nigeria Police.<br />
<br />
“ By the strength of that unprofessional declaration, I was treated like a common criminal and fugitive until I showed up at the Police Headquarters Abuja to physically present myself.<br />
<br />
“After what the Police termed a no case issue, they were apologetic and I took my leave.<br />
<br />
“ In the evening of that day, Wednesday 7th February, 2018 I got a phone call inviting me to the Headquarters of the Directorate of State Security (DSS).<br />
<br />
“I honoured the invitation on Thursday and spent seven hours waiting for attention. I left the office at 6.50pm when it became clear nobody was ready to tell me what the invitation was meant for. I was informed to report back on Friday 9th February, 2018 at 11am.<br />
<br />
“On arrival on Friday, having spent two hours, I was attended to by the Director of Operations and two others who interrogated me on the said statement I issued.<br />
<br />
” My interrogation was recorded electronically and was made to write a statement affirming the issued statement, having collected all my personal details; house address, account number, international passport number and other information.<br />
<br />
“I find this whole episode quite nauseating and utterly condemnable. I cannot rationalise why just a statement would amount to subjecting me to rigorous interrogation especially when there was no complainant.”<br />
<br />
Afegbua said the Nigeria Police and the DSS were at best meddlesome interloper engaging in sheer bullying,<br />
<br />
He added: “The action of the Nigeria Police coupled with that of the State Security Service is at best that of a meddlesome interloper and sheer bullying, leaving serious developmental issues to chasing shadows with a view to intimidate, harass and embarrass me.<br />
<br />
“Let me state at this point that my life is in danger as we speak. I have been receiving series of unknown phone calls from people threatening me and my family.<br />
<br />
“But I am resolute in the true spirit of a free born, that threats, intimidation, harassment and psychological torturing has never and will not stop me from exercising my right of free speech as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; as well as carrying out my professional responsibility.<br />
<br />
“I will not submit to intimidation, harassment and threats. Certainly not. I have just a life to live and no one under God will live forever.”<br />
<br />
“This experience to me is an eye opener in so many ways. I feel a sense of personal gratitude to several of Nigeria’s foremost legal luminaries who maintained a constant touch and gave useful legal advice throughout the period of this travails.<br />
<br />
“I am most humbled. And the Almighty Allah will meet all of you in your hour of need. On a lighter note, the support, accolades and motivation I received during this period have given me added confidence to seek elective public office in no distant future.”<br />
<br />
“ I speak as a stakeholder, former president, concerned Nigerian and a patriot who desires to see new paradigms in our shared commitment to get this country running. Modern leadership is not just about “fighting” corruption, it is about plugging the leakages and building systems that will militate against corruption.<br />

“Accountability in leadership should flow from copious examples. It goes beyond mere sloganeering. My support for a new breed leadership derives from the understanding that it will show a marked departure from recycled leadership to creating new paradigms that will breathe fresh air into our present polluted leadership actuality.<br />

“My intervention in the governance process of Nigeria wasn’t an accident of history. Even as a military government, we had a clear-cut policy agenda on what we needed to achieve. We recruited some of the best brains and introduced policies that remain some of the best in our effort to re-engineer our polity and nation.<br />

“We saw the future of Nigeria but lack of continuity in government and of policies killed some of our intentions and initiatives. Even though we did not provide answers to all the developmental challenges that confronted us as at that time, we were not short of taking decisions whenever the need arose.”<br />

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dragged the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, and 14 other Nigerian officials to a United States of America District Court over alleged complicity in the extra-judicial killings of its members.<br />
<br />
IPOB alleged that the extra-judicial killings happened during protests over the arrest and detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.<br />
<br />
Those dragged to the US court, aside Buratai and Idris are: Lawal Musa Daura; Ibrahim Attahiru; M.I. Ibrahim; Kasim Umar Sidi; Issah Maigari Abdullahi; former IGP Solomon Arase; Abia and Anambra state governors, Okezie Ikpeazu and Willie Obiano; Habila Hosea; Peter Nwagbara; James Oshim Nwafor; Hosea Karma; Bassey Abang and Johnson Babatunde Kokumo.<br />
<br />
The suit was filed based on two US’ statutes; the Alien Tort Claims Act (ATCA or ATS – the Alien Tort Statute) and the Torture Victims Protection Act (TVPA).<br />
<br />
Both laws have extra-territorial reach, meaning they allow US federal courts to assert long-arm jurisdiction which extends beyond the borders of US.<br />
<br />
ATCA provides that ‘the district courts shall have original jurisdiction on any civil action by an alien (foreigner) for a civil wrong committed in violation of the law of nations or a treaty of the United States.’<br />
<br />
Since 1980, courts have interpreted this statute to allow foreign citizens to seek remedies in US courts, for human rights violations and for conducts committed outside the US.<br />
<br />
The TVPA of 1991 is a statute which permits civil suits in the US against foreign individuals who, acting in an official capacity for any foreign nation, committed torture and/or extra-judicial killings.<br />
<br />
In the suit, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said the banned group’s lawyers argued that “the case is convincing.<br />

“Beyond the latest processes, and at the ensuing trial, Buratai, Ikpeazu, Obiano and others, will be required to personally appear before the US court to testify under oath and cross-examination that will dwell on the details…<br />

 Abia and Anambra, according to IPOB, filed a counter-motion to the suit on February 6.

Gov. Obaseki of Edo State, has set up a N10 million education fund for the training of two children of late David Okoniba, whose death was allegedly caused by an exchange with a police officer at Upper Igun, Third Junction area of Benin.<br />
<br />
He disclosed this when he led some members of his cabinet on a condolence visit to the family of the deceased. The governor said he was at the victim’s home to assure his relatives that the government share in their grief, assuring them that those culpable in the killing will be brought to book.<br />
<br />
“I am here today to get the details of what happened. Listening to you, I am heartbroken. I can feel your pain and appreciate your pain and anger. I want to assure the family that the case will not be swept under the carpet.<br />
<br />
It will be followed to a logical conclusion as a reputable retired Judge of Edo State High Court, Justice Olubo, has been selected to head the panel of enquiry which will investigate what truly happened on the said date of the incident that led to the death and consequent fracas between the youths and the police.<br />
<br />
I learnt that the deceased has two children. I have released N10 million fund to be used for their education, to reduce the pain of the absence of their father and ensure their education does not suffer much because of this incident.”<br />
<br />
Obaseki also assured the family that government will support in the burial of late David Okoniba and advised the family to take the wife of the deceased to the hospital for medical attention at government expense, as she was still traumatised from the incident.

“Men will seek sex in all ways, but when it comes to sex workers it is a different game. They don’t accept intercourse without condoms however much men insist to pay more for unprotected sex. Society has a negative perception of sex workers but in reality, they are in the front line in prevention of sexually transmitted diseases,” said Ngara.</div>

My clients are aged between 18 and 35 years,” she revealed.</div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The two accomplices – Olapade Saheed, 32, and Olatunji Abiodun, 26 – were later caught with the deceased’s head and other body parts, leading to the arrest of Hamed and Tope Akinyele, 45, who claimed to be the pastor of a church in Ojagbo, in the Oranyan area of Ibadan.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hamed said he usually paid N2,500 for human flesh which he used in making money charm for his clients.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">He said, “Someone introduced Saheed and Abiodun to me. I gave them N2,500  to help me find human flesh. We all met at Ayegun junction, Ibadan.  Around 10pm, I took them to a grave where a body that was brought from Warri, Delta State, was buried.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“I took part in the prayers for the deceased before he was buried. I left them (Saheed and Abiodun) there, but they refused to let me go. They said they wanted to sleep in my house that night.  I got them a place close to my house.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“In the early hours of the second day, they came to me with a cellophane bag. I did not check what was inside, but I hanged it on the wall of my house. I was on my way to my office in Ile-Tuntun when I saw them in the midst of a crowd with a human head.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“I use human flesh to make money ritual for people and I pay N2,500 for the flesh. In this case, the charm was for myself. I did not ask them to cut off the head and it was not in my possession when the police came.”</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In his statement, Saheed said Alfa paid them N1,500 to do the job and that he took them to the grave of the deceased.</span><br />

After we finished the job (of exhuming and cutting off body parts), he took what he needed from the remains of the dead man and asked us to dispose of the rest.</span><br />
