box-sizing: border-box; color: #585858; font-family: "Open Sans"; font-size: 15px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #585858; font-family: "Open Sans"; font-size: 15px;">According to Butu, IPMAN has 80 per cent of retail outlets (fuel stations), but gets 10 per cent products alongside buying above the ex-depot price to keep their stations open and in business.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #585858; font-family: "Open Sans"; font-size: 15px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #585858; font-family: "Open Sans"; font-size: 15px;">Aminu said the Corps has met with the Group Managing Director of the NSCDC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, over the issue.</span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #585858; font-family: "Open Sans"; font-size: 15px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #585858; font-family: "Open Sans"; font-size: 15px;">Aminu urged all station managers to check boots for jerry-cans, extra-fitted tanks for profiteers, who queued repeatedly, thereby hindering other motorists, saying they should be handed over to security agents.</span><br style="background-color: white; The Secretary-General of Interpol, Jurgen Stock, has recommended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a model for the African continent in the fight against corruption.<br />

He said this on Friday when he led a delegation of the Interpol to the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja.<br />
<br />
Stock, who was received by the Acting EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu, was delighted at the efforts of the anti-graft agency and assured them of the global organisation’s support at the international level.<br />
<br />
He also commended the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for its efforts in fighting corruption in Nigeria.<br />
<br />

“I am delighted to be here and it’s mainly an opportunity to thank the Government and the EFCC for its cooperation,” he said in a statement signed by the Commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren.<br />

The Interpol boss further stressed the need to understand the global directions of organised crimes, noting that “the world is taking advantage of globalisation to commit crime and it’s a threat to all nations”.<br />
<br />
“Interpol is committed to supporting the EFCC, and indeed, other agencies to build global security architecture and ensure that adequate information is made available amongst other infrastructure to support the Commission.<br />
<br />
“We understand your needs and we will see where we can come in and unite forces to fight against the Global phenomenon of crime,” he added.<br />
<br />
On his part, Magu commended the delegation for the visit and thanked Stock for finding time out of his busy schedule as the Secretary General of Interpol.<br />
<br />
He said, “The EFCC has always had a good rapport with the Interpol and has always enjoyed collaboration with the organisation, especially in the area of information sharing.”<br />
<br />
The anti-graft agency boss advocated for a borderless platform to further support efficiency in information sharing culture with the global organisation.<br />
<br />
He also called for more collaboration with the Interpol which has 192 member states, saying it was essential for the effective operation of the EFCC.<br />
<br />
Other members on the Interpol entourage include the Head of Interpol Nigeria, Olusola Subair; Head of Interpol – Regional Bureau for West Africa, Kedji Abbe; and Deputy Head of Interpol Nigeria, Bankola Lanre, among others.<br />

The management of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, is yet to come to terms with an explanation by an official in the Makurdi, Benue office of the Board that proceeds from the sale of admission scratch cards in the state, totaling N36million have been swallowed from the cash vault by a mystery snake that comes in the night.</div>

The mystery snake was said to have sneaked into the account office of the Board in Makurdi and made away with the N36 million cash a number of times. JAMB candidates hitherto purchased scratch cards from JAMB state offices and other designated centers, to gain access to the Board’s website for either registration or to check their admission status.</div>

According to him, “We are deeply worried by the incessant cases of candidates being defrauded by registration syndicates and CBT operators. The planning and operation of our CBT examination begin with the registration exercise. At this stage, we monitor the effectiveness of the telecommunication network to be used during the examination. Some of our CBT operators are found to have collaborated with these syndicates to carry out registration irregularities that frustrate the credibility of our examination.</div>

Emerging report revealed the deadly Fulani herdsmen, on Thursday night, attacked villages in Logo Local Government Area in Benue State.<br />

The report shows that an undisclosed number of persons were in critical condition from gunshot wounds in the attacks by suspected herdsmen.<br />

“The victims are at NKST Hospital now in Anyiin”, Terkura Suswam, a Politician and Founder of Ashi Polytechnic in Anyiin said.<br />
<br />
Tsukwa is about a mile from Anyiin, which has a Police Special Forces Unit and one of the biggest camps for the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in Benue State.<br />

Another Anyiin resident who confirmed the attack to was Alijah Auna, the Secretary of the IDP camp there.<br />
<br />
“Yes, they have been attacking villages around Anyiin this night”, Auna said.<br />

Suspected herdsmen engaged men of the 707 special forces brigade of the Nigerian Army, Makurdi, Benue state in a gun battle on Tuesday.<br />

Olabisi Ayeni, spokesman of the brigade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.<br />
<br />
He said the suspects were plotting to attack a fish farm belonging to Samuel Ortom, governor of the state.<br />
<br />
Ayeni said two of the attackers had been arrested.<br />
<br />
“Troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade, Nigerian Army, on a routine patrol along Gbajimba – Iyiodeh road in Guma LGA of Benue State on Tuesday 6 February 2018 arrested two Fulani militia who were suspected to be planning a dangerous mission,” he said.<br />
<br />
“The troops sighted a group of these people while on their daily patrol. The militia who were suspected to be converging, possibly for an attack on Governor Ortom’s fish farm and other innocent citizens were about to be approached for questioning when they opened fire on the troops who later engaged them.<br />
<br />
“When the troops accosted the herdsmen, they opened fire on the troops, who in turn engaged them in a shootout.<br />
<br />
“In the course of the shootout, some of the herdsmen fled the area while two were arrested and handed over to the police.”<br />
<br />
Benue has been a flashpoint of violence, especially between farmers and herdsmen.<br />
<br />
Some of the security personnel deployed in the state have been killed in their bid to restore normalcy.<br />
<br />
On Wednesday, the army listed Benue among the six states where it would launch a 44-day operation to tackle insecurity.<br />
<br />
When he visited Nasarawa earlier inm the week, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered security operatives to arrest those perpetrating violence in the country.

A sister in-law to President Muhammadu Buhari, Hajiya Aisha Mamman, is dead.<br />

Mamman, 75, died in the early hours of Thursday.<br />
<br />
The Information Officer of the Daura Local Government Council in Katsina, Alhaji Salisu Haro, made the disclosure in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura.<br />
<br />
He said the deceased died at 11:30 a.m. at the Federal Medical Center in Katsina during a brief illness.<br />
<br />
Haro said that the deceased was the wife of the late Alhaji Mamman Danbaffale, the elder brother to Buhari.<br />
<br />
He said that Mamman was survived by eight children, including Fatihu Mamman, a staff of the Nigerian Communications Commission and Hajiya Rabiya Mamman, a nutrition officer with the Katsina State Government.<br />

The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Sunday called on all Fulani herdsmen in some parts of the country, especially in Benue and Taraba states, to relocate to Kano State.<br />

Ganduje said Kano State had “vast grazing land” to accommodate herdsmen and their cattle.<br />

The governor stated this during the monitoring of the state’s “free vaccination of over one million cattle and other small animals” at Kadawa Artificial Insemination Centre in the Garum Malam Local Government Area of the state.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The exercise titled, ‘Towards Conservation of Livestock Resource and Animal Protein for Citizens of Kano,’ was part of activities marking the 2017/2018 livestock vaccination programme.<br />
<br />
Ganduje, who condemned the “recent killings during the clashes between farmers and herdsmen,” said they were unacceptable.<br />
<br />
The governor said the vaccination was initiated to keep animals healthy and improve the economy of the state.<br />
<br />
He said as part of the government’s commitment to encouraging herdsmen in the state, Kano State Government had been providing facilities that would accommodate the herdsmen and their cattle to discourage them from moving to other states in search of grazing land.<br />
<br />
Ganduje said, “Fulani herdsmen of Kano origin do not move out of Kano to other states because we have enough grazing land, ranches and traditional stock route. They don’t have any reason to move out of the state. We take care of them and we accord them the respect and dignity they deserve.<br />
<br />
“I am inviting herdsmen from all parts of Nigeria to relocate to Kano because we have enough facilities to accommodate them. We have grazing land in Rogo, Gaya, Kura, Tudun Wada, Ungogo and other places, where facilities have been provided to accommodate the herdsmen and their cattle.”<br />
<br />
The governor added that his administration was already in collaboration with the Federal Government and foreign agencies to convert the Falgore Game Reserve into a modern grazing land.<br />
<br />
“Falgore Game Reserve can take care of millions of herdsmen and their cattle in Nigeria. The location has been designed to accommodate schools, human and animal clinics, markets, recreational centres and other social amenities that would provide the herdsmen enough comfort to take care of their animals and transact their business without any hindrance.<br />
<br />
“These killings must stop. We cannot afford to continue to witness these senseless killings in the name of Fulani herdsmen and farmers clash over lack of grazing land when we have a place like the Falgore Game Reserve, which is being underutilised.”<br />
<br />
Ganduje also said his administration had embarked on the registration of herdsmen and their cattle to enable the government to take care of them through free vaccination and other incentives.<br />
<br />
‘Tiv people flee 25 villages’<br />
<br />
The indigenous Tiv people of Kadarko in the Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have reportedly fled 25 villages over attacks by herdsmen.<br />
<br />
Community leaders, under the auspices of the Concerned Indigenous Tiv People of Kadarko, said this at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday.<br />
<br />
Spokesman for the group, Dr Benjamin Agbede, said they decided to cry out because there appeared to be an orchestrated plot to force them out of their ancestral land.<br />
<br />
He explained that they were worried that since the outbreak of hostilities on January 15, 2018, Tiv farmers had been left to their fate.<br />
<br />
Agbede said, “It is on record that the governor (Tanko Al-Makura) visited the areas and saw the dead bodies on January 30, 2018, but he merely directed that the corpses should be buried by the families of the deceased without any assistance.<br />
<br />
“We were shocked that a paltry sum of N500,000 was made available to be shared by the families of those killed and those in different hospitals.<br />
<br />
“For the avoidance of doubt, 12 people were killed and more than 30 are receiving treatment in different hospitals.<br />
<br />
“We are deeply worried that although the area is inhabited by other ethnic nationalities, only the Tiv people are targets of the terrorists.”<br />
<br />
Another community leader, Felix Akie, said, “We wonder why the police did not respond on time to save our people after we made distress calls when the shootings and killings were going on in Agwan Tiv.”<br />
<br />
They appealed to the federal and state governments to come to their aid by ensuring that peace returned so that they could return home and resume their normal lives.<br />
<br />
The community leaders named some of the 25 affected villages to include Azer, Tamen Bature, Dooga, Che Utsaha, Nyam Adaga, Cha, Igbacha, Shatse, Ngur and Nguchi.<br />

Gunmen kill cop, resident in Benue<br />
<br />
Two separate attacks on communities in the troubled Logo and Guma local government areas of Benue State have left two persons dead, including a policeman, while many others are missing<br />
<br />
The first incident, according to sources, occurred at Anyiin community in the Logo LGA when suspected herdsmen on Saturday attacked and killed a trader, identified as Abuchi, believed to be of Igbo origin.<br />
<br />
It was gathered that the gunmen, suspected to be Fulani militia, opened fire on Igbo traders who were coming back from a local market around 6pm, killing Abuchi and injuring others.<br />
<br />
A resident of Anyiin, Terkaa Tim, said Abuchi was a popular Igbo trader in the area.<br />
<br />
According to him, the attack which led to his death took place along Gbeji-Anyiin Road.<br />
<br />
He said the victim’s remains were recovered by the police near Ayoo Udu village.<br />
<br />
Our correspondent further learnt that following the attack, the Igbo people in Benue threatened a showdown.<br />
<br />
Although efforts to reach the President of the Igbo Community in Benue State were unsuccessful as of press time, a friend of the victim, Chima Wanchukwu, lamented the action of the herdsmen.<br />
<br />
But the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said he was not aware of the incident in Logo.<br />
<br />
He said the only report on his table was from Tarka, where a man and his family, who were travelling to Calabar, were attacked by bandits while they were changing their vehicle’s flat tyre.<br />
<br />
“The family’s car had a flat tyre around the Police Training School in Tarka; and while he was changing the tyre, he was attacked by bandits, but they managed to escape unhurt into the college.<br />
<br />
“I am not aware of the killing of an Igbo man in Logo, but we have decided to provide escorts for the man and his family to their destination,” Owoseni said.<br />
<br />
In a related development, the team deployed by the state police command in Yogbo community in the Guma LGA came under attack on Sunday.<br />
<br />
The state Police Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the attack, said the police team responded and engaged the gunmen in a shootout, which led to the killing of three of the gunmen.<br />
<br />
He added that their corpses were taken away by their fleeing members, who “also suffered severe gunshot injuries.”<br />
<br />
Yamu stated that the command lost one officer, while another one had yet to be seen.<br />
<br />
The PPRO said, “The police are intensifying efforts with the aim of curbing armed attacks and apprehending criminal elements using tribal sentiment to cause mayhem.<br />
<br />
“The command will also ensure adequate security to encourage residents to return to areas hitherto deserted.”<br />
<br />
Declare herdsmen terrorists –Seadogs<br />
<br />
The Nigerian Association of Seadogs, also known as Pyrates, has called on the Federal Government to declare and treat herdsmen in the country as terrorists.<br />
<br />
The group explained that declaring cattle herders in Nigeria terrorists had become imperative following their activities that had led to the death of scores of Nigerians.<br />
<br />
NAS President, Arthur Boje, who made the call during a medical outreach organised by the association at Oro-Ochiri community in Rebisi town, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said herdsmen were also responsible for the sacking of some communities in the country.<br />
<br />
The medical outreach was part of the association’s programme to mark its Quarter 2 Pyrates Working Committee meeting.<br />
<br />
Boje said, “We are not happy with the killings going on in parts of the country. There is no way you will be satisfied when your brothers and sisters are killed senselessly and the government is not doing enough to save the situation.<br />
<br />
“What those herdsmen are doing is orchestrated. It is tactically planned. These are people that have infiltrated into the country, aided by some people on the ground and also sponsored by people here.<br />
<br />
“They are terrorists and the Federal Government should treat them as such. They are not herdsmen; they are professional killers brought from outside into the country to cause havoc.”

Maj.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, made the disclosure while handing over 82 women and children rescued from the insurgents’ captivity, to the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), in Maiduguri.<br />

Rabi told newsmen that her husband was the medical doctor to the insurgents’ leader, Abubakar Shekau.<br />
<br />
She said that she was rescued on Friday after the troops dislodged the insurgents’ enclaves in Sambisa Forest.<br />

Recounting her ordeal, Rabi said that unlike her peers, she enjoyed preferential treatment and privileges in view of her position as a wife to the physician.<br />
<br />
“My husband, Abu-Yasir, is Shekau’s physician, he also treat patients and conduct surgical operation.<br />
<br />
“My type of food and other consumables are better from what they gave out to other women and children in the camps.<br />
<br />
“We suffered in their hands and they warned us that Nigerian troops will kill anybody who surrenders to them.<br />
<br />
“They always told us to stay with them and encouraged us not to submit to the troops.<br />
<br />
“The military are taking care of us, as against the wrong notion the insurgents made us to believe,” she said.<br />
<br />
Rabi lauded the military for the rescue operation and called on the abducted persons still in the bush to come out and surrender to the troops.<br />
<br />
Nicholas explained that Rabi was among the 84 civilians rescued by the troops.<br />
<br />
He disclosed that eight of the 84 rescued persons were currently receiving treatment at the Nigerian Air Force Medical facility in Maiduguri.<br />
<br />
The commander noted that the abducted persons were subjected to inhuman treatment in the hands of the insurgents.<br />
<br />
Nicholas said that the abductees were rescued after troops dislodged and occupied Shekau’s group operational headquarters deep in Sambisa Forest.<br />
<br />
He revealed that the troops had destroyed insurgents’ hideouts, vehicles and ammunition, while hundreds of insurgents surrendered and over 100 civilians rescued.<br />
<br />
According to him, the command would profile the rescued persons for rehabilitation and de-radicalisation for reintegration into the society.<br />
<br />

Benue State Police Command, on Friday said it’s interrogating the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Gboko A Division over the killing of seven persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.<br />

The State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Makurdi, the state capital.<br />
<br />
<br />
Owoseni also disclosed that some persons had been arrested in connection with the killings.<br />
<br />
The state police boss said the affected DPO was being questioned on whether he acted professionally upon getting a distress call on the day of the incident.<br />
<br />
According to Oweseni, “We have arrested some suspects and of course the (Nigeria) Police has its accountability process.<br />
<br />
“At the moment we are trying to find out exactly what happened on that day, we are also looking at what the response time was taking into consideration when the distress call was made and when the response came in.<br />
<br />
<br />
“It is on the basis of this that the Divisional Officer of A Division Gboko is being questioned. We want to know what time he got the distress call and what was his immediate action.<br />
<br />
“We are also trying to find out from him if he responded professionally because as a police officer our allegiance and loyalty is to the constitution of this country not to any other person.”

8 cows belonging to the herdsmen were said to have been killed by the youths over what they described as the continues destruction of their farm produce by the grazing herd.<br />

Sources from the community told Vanguard that the herdsmen had tried to attack a female farmer who raised the alarm, drawing the attention of her sons and other youths of the community who came to her rescue.<br />
<br />
One of the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, noted that farmers in the community have been having a running battle over the years with herdsmen who graze their herds on their farms.<br />
<br />
The source said: “They invaded the woman’s farm and when she accosted them on the rationale for their actions, they attacked her, leading to a confrontation with youths from the community who mobilised to the farm to rescue the woman.<br />
<br />
“It took the intervention of elders of the community who intervened and rescued the herdsmen from being lynched, but unfortunately, 8 of their herds were killed while the impasse lasted.”<br />
