<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), in Delta State, Mr. Kennedy Eyube, has described the separate open letters written by former presidents, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), as a great opportunity for President Muhammadu Buhari to win the 2019 general election.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Eyube disclosed this in a statement in Warri yesterday through his media office.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">He said Nigerians should not criticize or react negatively to the two former leaders, but consider their letters as a major factor that will boost the re-election of Buhari.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">He said, “Both Chief Obasanjo and General Babangida ruled this country for eight years each or more. Their governments were not entirely perfect.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“Nigerians still have records of how they ruled this country, so, they should allow President Buhari to do his eight years after which Nigerians can also pass judgment on Buhari’s tenure.</span><br />

Ozekhome made this known to Daily Sun while reacting to a statement credited to Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu that the media was “promoting hate speech” instead of supporting government to tackle security challenges in the country.<br />
<br />
The senior lawyer wondered how it amounted to hate speech if the media were only narrating events as they occurred.<br />
<br />
He warned the presidency against any attempt to stifle freedom of speech, saying that the government could not seriously expect every media organisation to support it.<br />
<br />
Ozekhome, who was responding to questions from the paper, said, “You are merely narrating an event that took place and in the write-up, some of us told the President what to do.<br />
<br />
“For instance, we told him to relocate the Inspector General of Police and send the military there because the police do not have the capacity to curtail the issue.<br />
<br />
“The military should be redeployed to states, like Benue, Taraba and Plateau the way they were taken to Umuahia when IPOB was exiting.<br />
<br />
“So, if you make a comparative analysis about what is happening, how does it amount to hate speech? Except if they want to finally take away our freedom of speech in this country because they have already taken away the food from our table.<br />
<br />
“If they want to take away our God-given freedom of speech, then they have to tell us.<br />
<br />
“The media is the fourth estate of the realm and it is the only entity empowered by Section 22 of the 1999 constitution to hold the government accountable and responsible to the people of Nigeria.<br />
<br />
“The media’s job is to keep the government on its toes. Did the media not keep Goodluck Jonathan’s government on its toes and he was subsequently removed, in preference to President Muhammadu Buhari?<br />
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) leveraged and used the media effectively to oust Jonathan; so, why are they suddenly getting touchy about how the media reports events? Do they not know that what goes around comes around?<br />

“The media was carrying out its constitutional responsibility and when Jonathan was overwhelmed, he threw in the towel even before the last results were announced.<br />

“The government would be joking to expect every media in Nigeria to support it.”

On leaving the Presidential Villa, Mr. Dauda said he headed straight to have a meeting with Mr. Arab Yadam who was D-G in an acting capacity but was retiring. The meeting, he said, dwelt on what the retiring Acting D-G did in the seven months during which he ran the agency.   The briefing, said Mr. Dauda, comprised his administrative, operational and technical duties, all of which were highly confidential. Mr. Yadam also gave his successor the picture of the agency's financial position, which included $44million he informed was part of the intervention fund that brought the Ikoyi apartment cash scandal.</div>

After the briefing, Mr. Yadam introduced Mr. Dauda to Brigadier-General Mohammed Ja'afaru, the Acting Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) who briefed him on the nature of the agency's assignments. Among these are the daily operations of the accounts for both domestic and foreign management. The Acting DFA also told Mr. Dauda that the $44million in his custody, which was not part of the agency's budgetary allocation, should not be touched because it had become an exhibit in an ongoing case. The purpose of the disclosure, Mr. Dauda said, was for his information. </div>

Not long after Mr. Dauda assumed office, the Presidential Review Panel (PRP) headed by Mr. Kingibe started its assignment within NIA. The agency provided the members of the panel with office space, accommodation, food and other logistics. Aside from Mr. Kingibe, other members include Mr. Albert K. Horsfall, a former D-G of the State Security Service; Mr. Olaniyi Oladeji, Mr. ZY Ibrahim both former DGs of the NIA and the current DG of NIA, Mr. Abubakar, who was PRP Secretary.</div>

After the maiden meeting with the panel, said Mr. Dauda, Mr. Kingibe called him to advise that in his own interest, he should cooperate with them fully and avoid being close with Buhari's National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, Mr. Kingibe also disclosed that they had presidential powers to overrule previous instructions or directives issued by the NSA.</div>

According to him, things went on smoothly untilKingibe and Abubakar kept pressuring him for money. Mr. Dauda said he explained that the agency's dollar account was low because of the difficulty in sourcing dollars from the Central Bank of Nigeria following the crises that arose from the Ikoyi money scandal. However, the replied that the $44m in the custody of the Acting DFA belongs to the agency and that the DFA had no power to stop Mr. Dauda from spending the money. They added that since the crisis had blown over, Mr. Dauda should go and tell Brigadier-General Jafa'aru to return to his job in the army. He was advised to write to the National Security Adviser to withdraw him or ask the NIA security department to stop him from entering the premises of the agency.</div>

Mr. Dauda said the pressure was huge, but he felt if Brigadier-General Jafa'aru left, he might not be able to resist further pressure from the desperate Kingibe led gang.</div>

"They kept insisting that they had the mandate of the President and that the President had directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to hands off the money and that it was legitimately ours. They verbally queried me on the logic of keeping the money as an exhibit since there was no case pending in court. Ambassador Kingibe told me that he was the one who, through the Chief of Staff drafted the memo that the President assented to, instructing the EFCC to hands off our case (Ikoyi cash . scandal) just to convince me that there are no more encumbrances on the money," stated Mr. Dauda.</div>

Still, no dice. He claimed that Kingibe and others kept pressuring and threatening that if he did not get rid of the Brigadier-General, he would have regrets. Mr. Dauda said he had no reason to get the man out and he actually enjoyed working with him. His refusal to do as they wished, he said, this prompted Messrs. Kingibe and Abubakar to tell him at a meeting that he was refusing presidential orders to bar the Brigadier-General from the NIA premises. They warned him that there might be consequences if he remained adamant. At one of the meetings, explained Mr. Dauda, Mr. Horsfall advised him to ignore any suggestion that could cause confrontation between him and the NSA and advised his colleagues on the panel to put it as part of their recommendations to the President since they had his mandate, so he could order the NSA to remove the Acting DFA from the NSA.                                  </div>

"They wanted money for medical treatment or holidays abroad for their families and girlfriends. I met and gave a lady Ambassador Kingibe simply introduced to me as "Angela"  money twice at the car park of the Hilton Hotel. Once $50,000 and the second time $20,000, which apparently did not impress him. Even the current DG NIA once called me on WhatsApp, just like Amb. Kingibe always does and said that his Oga was traveling to London for medical check-up and he suggested that I should find something for him as a sign of good will. So, I reluctantly gave him $50,000 against my will, a decision that made me sad throughout the day," he said. He added that Mr. Kingibe collected over $200,000 from him during the time he headed the PRP. Mr. Dauda said he was always using the President's name to squeeze cash out of the NIA. They also undermined the Office of the National Security Adviser.</div>

On December 20 2017, said the former Acting DG, Mr. Kingibe asked the current DG NIA to tell him to meet them at home located at 59 Nelson Mandela Street, Asokoro, Abuja. He was asked to come alone. At the meeting, he was told of his refusal to cooperate with them and they had brought him there to warn that the Acting DFA was conspiring with some people to steal the $44million in their safe. He was warned that he would be held liable if he did not stop their plan.</div>

"They told me that their Committee had completed their assignment and that their recommendations were so generous to the DG NIA. They said they recommended the appointment of two Deputy Directors-General and watered down their powers enough so that they will not be in a position to pose any threat to him as the DG," wrote Mr. Dauda.</div>

"I told them it was not going to be possible as the only money available was the $44million and I didn't know how to approach the Acting DFA. They also told me at the meeting that if I can't  sack the DFA, they would send someone to do it soon. That was my last communication with them until I heard of my removal from office on Wednesday 11 January on Channels Television around 8 pm,' said Mr. Dauda.    </div>

The next day, he advised the NSA to look at the possibility of evacuating the money from the NIA, an advice the NSA heeded. The money was moved and taken to the Office of the NSA.</div>

Later that night, Mr. Dauda said he received a call from the Mr. Abubakar, who requested for a meeting with him and the staff who worked with him at 10pm. Mr. Abubakar said the meeting was ordered by Mr. Kyari. The meeting was eventually moved to the next day after Mr. Dauda protested that it was too late. At the meeting the next day, an enraged Mr. Abubakar said the Presidency blamed him for not taking over immediately thereby giving room for the money to be taken away and warned that Mr. Dauda would be held responsible.</div>

He equally stated that his life is being threatened by the Kingibe gang and requested immediate protection for him and his family. Mr. Abubakar, he said, has already shown his hand with a letter requesting Mr. Dauda to return official vehicles in his possession. He has also received another letter restricting his movement on the claim that the agency was investigating leakage of sensitive information.</div>

A former consultant and investigator with the EFCC Mr. Victor Osita Uwajeh has said that no amount of intimidation from Senator Andy Uba will stop him from claiming his professional fee from him.<br />
Uwajeh who accused Uba of using state Machinery and the police to intimidate him wondered why a serving senator of the Federal Republic will descend  so low by fraudulently using the court to silent justice.<br />
Uwajeh was reacting to the recent court charges in the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court asking him to appear before it on  February 13, 2018 to take his plea on charges bordering on forgery, impersonation and fraud.<br />
He said, "  No amount of intimidation by Senator Andy Uba using the police and state machinery will stop me from legally claiming my professional fee from him.<br />
" He should pay me my fee rather than getting the police to harass me through trumped up court charges".<br />
Uwajeh had initiated a suit against Senator Andy Uba (APC, Anambra) over allegations of refusal to pay a debt of £1.9 million.<br />
Uwajeh’s counsel, Barrister Anthony Agbonlahor had  told an FCT High Court sitting in Apo that Uba engaged his client’s services for an assignment in United Kingdom Border Agency and in the United States of America (US) pursuant to his two power of attorneys dated 28 December, 2012 and 5 January, 2013 and refused to pay his professional fees.<br />
He said his client travelled to America several times and engaged the services of a lawyer who was mandated to attend every court session in the US to dispose off a warrant of arrest and eventually settle the case which was instituted by the US government against Uba.<br />
The lawmaker was also accused forging his West African Examination Council Certificate (WAEC) results as well as his Concordia University in Montreal, Canada and several other academic credentials.<br />
The court however advised them to settle the matter out of court but instead of exploring the option, Uba resorted to using the police to intimidate Uwajeh.

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has slammed the Federal Government for refusing a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, to seek medical attention outside the country.<br />

Metuh appeared in an Abuja Court on Monday on a stretcher .<br />
Fani-Kayode wrote on his Twitter page: “Olisa Metuh is denied the right to travel abroad for medical care and forced to go to court on a stretcher?<br />
“Kassim Afegbua is declared wanted by the Police simply for issuing a statement on behalf of IBB criticising Buhari?<br />

“What has this cruel herdsman turned Nigeria into?”<br />
Recall that Metuh is standing trial for alleged money laundering of N400million. The money is part of the funds linked with former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd).<br />
The politician was stretchered into the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, following the threat by Justice Okon Abang to revoke his bail if he failed to appear in court on Monday.<br />

The Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has disclosed that the anti-graft body recovered N473.065 billion in 2017.<br />
<br />
Magu made the disclosure while defending the commission’s budget proposals for 2018 and review of 2017 performance before the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes.<br />
<br />
He said some of the funds were recovered in foreign currencies, including $98.2m; £294 ,851; Dirham 443,400 ; and South African Rand 70,500.<br />

<br />
Magu said part of the funds was recovered from former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who recently forfeited N32 billion $5 million to the Federal Government.<br />
<br />
Giving an insight into major funds recovery operations, he said: “ Recovery and final forfeiture of N 449 m discovered at Legico Plaza in Victoria Island, Lagos . Final forfeiture of $ 43 m discovered in the Osborne Towers , Ikoyi , Lagos ; recovery of over N 329 bn from petroleum marketers by the commission ’ s Kano office ; withholding tax recovery of over N 27. 7 bn from banks ; recovery of over € 6 . 6 m from the Nigerian Port Authority ; recoveries of about N 1 . 1 bn on behalf of AMCON and recovery of subsidy fraud of over N 4 bn . ”<br />
<br />
Magu said the anti-graft body was proposing to spend N21.2 billion in 2018, up from N17.2 billion it budgeted in 2017.<br />
<br />
However, members of the Kayode Oladele (APC – Ogun State)-led committee expressed concerns over perceived lopsidedness in the appointment of the commission’s personnel, saying the South South and South East were not adequately represented.

Nigerians have been warned to be wary of the ‘evil coalition’  championed by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and his cronies, aimed at deceiving them ahead of the 2019 general elections. <br />

A group, under the umbrella of New Initiative for Credible Leadership (NICREL), said it has monitored the happenings in Nigeria, particularly the political terrain, as activities heat up ahead of  next year’s election with deep concerns.<br />
<br />
The group said it is worried that many expired politicians are coming up with different forces and coalitions to drag Nigeria back to the Dark Age.  <br />
<br />
NICREL said the recent statements on the state  of the nation by former military rulers, Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida, call for caution as the former leaders do not have anything meaningful to offer the nation. <br />
<br />
Speaking at a press Conference in Abuja, Most Reverend Steven Onwu, Executive Director, said Babangida’s advice, asking Buhari to bury his second term ambition was a threat to the nation’s democracy.<br />
<br />
Recall that the former dictator had in a statement issued Sunday night, urged President Buhari to sacrifice his ambition in the interest of the country.<br />
<br />
Reacting, however, Onwu noted that the manner in which the statement was conveyed to Nigerians clearly showed the evil genius of IBB, otherwise known as Maradona.<br />
<br />
Onwu said, “Kindly note that former military head of state and former president, Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo only a few days ago, apparently singing from the same hymnbook issued a statement with which he called on Nigerians to form or join a Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM). Nigerians should further note that:<br />

“Babangida was one of those that sponsored the Obasanjo in his failed coup attempt under the Sani Abacha dictatorship, which promptly landed Obasanjo in jail for treason.<br />
<br />
“Upon the demise of the dictator and Obasanjo's release from jail, Babangida was among the cabal that imposed him on Nigeria, albeit under a compromised election that set the tone for dubious elections in the country.<br />
<br />
“Even in the midst of these ominous conjugations however, we could not but notice the dark humor of the man credited as the father of corruption and the one that institutionalized corruption in Nigeria now grandstanding on the same issue in his desperation for relevance.<br />
<br />
“IBB's era as President saw Nigeria sat comfortably at the highest perch on the Global Corruption Index. Without him repenting and publicly apologizing for our commonwealth in addition to making restitution, he has suddenly found the courage to become Nigeria's latest anticorruption crusader.<br />
<br />
“If old age has erased IBB's memory, Nigerians are not able to forget that his economic policies left the country bankrupt and reduced to a nation in need of foreign help despite its abundant natural resources. The fallout of his rule underpins the economic morass that the country is still struggling to exit several decades later.<br />
<br />
“His commentary on security is really sad as it amounted to him dancing on the graves of those that have been killed in an insurgency that has been clearly traced to some of his cronies.<br />

“Nigeria will not migrate to IBB's proposed digital era of corruption and insecurity where our highways were dens of armed robbers, the ministries were contract trade centers, foreign contractors carted away all our natural resources, prevalence of state-run drug dealing and bombing of innocent Nigerians became a common thing. That is not the kind of progress Nigeria wants to make and wherever the promised land is, IBB is not the kind of person to take Nigeria there.<br />

“What we have learnt is that these former military leaders and other power brokers are unhappy with President Buhari for breaking rank with the old order by implementing programmes that return power to Nigerians. They are also uncomfortable with the dismantling of the corrupt system they had put in place to guarantee them sustained access to whoever is in power. Their loss of control over the Buhari presidency is therefore hurting badly to a point where they have to hatch a plan to retake the Presidential Villa from Nigerians.”<br />

The NICReL boss further called on Nigerians to put the Obasanjo, IBB, and the other members of the public to hold the duo responsible for any breach of peace in the run up to the 2019 general elections.<br />
<br />
He added that, “Their statements and utterances clearly indicate that they are secretly engaged in other activities destabilize the country even though the specifics of such evil machinations are not yet known. We shall lead our own coalition of the affected to attract the full weight of the law upon anyone that causes instability in the polity.<br />
<br />
“We urge the Federal Government to immediately place anyone associated with threatening stability of Nigeria in this manner under watch. Caution must however be exercised in taking them in for questioning because their objective is to whip up sentiment around such reaction in their bid to find something with which to provoke civil unrest across the country.”

She was a living repository or encyclopedia of the rich African heritage in folklore.</div>

In adult life, the only forest I heard, which equaled my late granny’s description of evil in forests; which  also, defied not just humanity, but the government and series of battalions of Nigerian troops for years is Sambisa Forest. It sits on the fringes of Borno state, in the Northeast of my country, Nigeria. Sambisa forest became famous for its notoriety as the safest haven for the brutal devils,  Boko Haram terrorists sect or “religious”  extremists.</div>

Factional Boko  Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau;  his  trusted top commanders and a dozen aficionados found this abandoned forest their most secured enclave as  hideout  for recuperation and  reflection on strategy, each time the devil’s incarnates visit heinous crimes against Nigerians.  From 2010 to May 2015, this forest provided enough support and pillar to blossoming terrorism,   fleeing insurgents and training camp for new recruits, usually, teenagers’, most times charmed and hypnotized in this large, dreadful forest for months. </div>

He promised to permanently keep the insurgents at bay, from Nigerian shores and transform the dreaded forest into a peaceful habitat for locals.</div>

From the depth of my heart,  I have come across a public servant, in today’s Nigeria who keeps his word or promises to the people and matches them with verifiable action like the latest exploits in the Sambisa forest exudes  with unarguable evidence.</div>

Each time, I reflect on Gen. Buratai’s stewardship of the Army, it potently leaves positive impressions. It  reinforces the feeling of a leader determined to  leave the  Northeast  or any other  host community of  the Nigerian Army far better than he met it  when  Mr.  President and Commander –In-Chief of the Nigeria’s Armed Forces mandated him to lead the counter-insurgency operations in the country.</div>
