War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.<br />
<br />
<br />
This is the story of a legend that proved that Africa and indeed Nigeria could hold its own even in the international arena. Enter the world of Baba Yusuf Buratai, a veteran of the World War two, a legend who despite all odds made his mark in his lifetime, and not only that, he left behind a legacy in the mould of a gift to humanity and Nigeria, which is the current Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusufu Buratai.<br />
<br />
Baba Buratai may have crossed to the great beyond, but his legacies would ever remain fresh in our hearts. For those who knew him, one thing was constant. He was a man of unequal bravery and dedication. He believed in the unity of Nigeria and humanity. He fought for peace to reign in his lifetime. Though not an academic, his counsels stood germane then, now and would continue in the future.<br />
Little wonder the exploits of his son, Lt. General Tukur Buratai in the current fight against the Boko Haram Insurgency. When Lt.General Tukur Buratai took over the helms of affairs of the Nigerian Army, many didn’t know his background as the son of a World War 2 veteran. Not many knew he was a man of steel. Not many knew he had a mentor who had shared war memoirs with him. Not many knew his antecedents and doubted his ability to deliver on the job.<br />
<br />
<br />
In some quarters, it is said that Baba Buratai bequeathed his son to Nigeria in 1981 when he enrolled at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. He carefully watched his progress in the Nigerian Army. He was always there to render advice to him. And one of which was to be loyal to his superiors and constituted authority.<br />
Given the sweep of his life, the scope of his accomplishments, the adoration that he so rightly earned, it’s tempting I think to remember Baba Buratai as an icon, smiling and serene, detached from the tawdry affairs of lesser men. In his lifetime, he taught the power of action, but he also showed us the power of ideas; the importance of reason and arguments; the need to study not only those who you agree with but also those who you don’t agree with.<br />

For the entire Buratai family, for those he inspired in Borno and other parts of the country, Baba Bauratai’s passing is rightly a time of mourning, as well as a time to celebrate a heroic life.  But it should also prompt in each of us a time for self-reflection.  With honesty, regardless of our station or our circumstance, we must ask:  How well have I applied his lessons in our own lives?<br />

<br />
One of Baba’s greatest legacies remains his contributions to humanity as a WW2 Hero, who saw to global peace for all humanity.  We all know of his record as a soldier, and he was a tough soldier. Baba was a man of the land. He defended this nation like a lion, and he taught its children to swing a scythe. He was a military legend in his lifetime, and he indeed passed the baton to his son, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu  Buratai, who has graciously continued to do the nation proud in the war against Boko Haram insurgents.<br />
<br />
Baba was indomitable; he had a north star that guided him. A north star from which he never deviated. His north star was the survival of the Nigerian nation. Nigeria has indeed lost a dear man and a bold warrior. We are therefore consoled by the fact that Baba lived to witness some of the most significant exploits of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General TY Buratai and the humbling of Boko Haram in his lifetime.<br />
<br />
In some instances, Baba felt like returning to the battlefront to confront the Boko Haram Insurgents, but strength failed him. His consolation was that his son was leading the onslaught, which brought him happiness.<br />
<br />
<br />
We stand with our country and the rest of the world to mourn with the Chief of Army Staff, the Buratai family, and the entire nation. If wishes were horses, Baba would remain with us. But who are we to question God? But we are consoled with his exploits here on earth and the legacies he left behind. We are also comforted by the fact that his son, Lt. General TY Buratai indeed proved himself worthy of leading the war against the Boko Haram Insurgents.<br />
<br />
While Baba might not be with us in the flesh, he remains with us in spirit. We use this medium to assure the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General TY Buratai that his efforts towards keeping Nigeria one would not go in vain. We also want to charge him to continue his good works and never to relent. If not for anything, to continue to make Baba proud wherever he is.<br />
<br />
We also know that the entire Buratai family has lost a great patriarch. We console with them. May Allah SWT grant you and your family sabr (sabar) in this challenging time and reward you with Khair both in this world and the next. Ameen. May Allah SWT grant him Jannatul-Firdaus and forgive his sins. May He make his grave a place of comfort and light. Ameen.<br />
<br />
May Almighty Allah dwell him in Jannataul-Firdaus, the most beautiful paradise. May Allah SWT in his mercy, grant him rest, may his grave be a part of Jannatul Firdaus and an abode of light. May Allah make him pass successfully in all the stages of the life after death. Ameen.<br />

Following recommendations from the National Judicial Council (NJC), President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the compulsory retirement of Honourable Justice A. F. A Ademola of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court and the dismissal from office of Honourable Justice O.O Tokode of the Benin Division of the Federal High Court.<br />
<br />
The disciplinary actions on the two Justices are in pursuance of section 292 (1) (b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).<br />
<br />
Justice O.O. Tokode is also to refund all salaries and allowances earned illegally from December 2nd 2015 when he was sworn-in as a Judge of the Federal High Court to date.<br />
<br />
The President urges judicial officers to be alive to their responsibilities and eschew corruption in the discharge of their duties.<br />
<br />
In a separate statement, also signed by Garba Shehu, President Buhari said:<br />

President Muhammadu Buhari has commenced the process of ensuring that persons, Judges and Justices recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC) for appointment into various Courts of Record in the instant are fit and proper, and are not under any disability to function as Judicial Officers.<br />
<br />
The President’s position is in furtherance of the executive powers vested in him under Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution, which allows him as the appointing authority to exercise same reasonably, taking all relevant factors into consideration.<br />
<br />
Nigerians are assured that President Buhari will issue his approval or otherwise as soon as the process of the background verification is completed.<br />

The Governor met with the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MISS NIGERIA), Miss Ugochi Ihezue who is an indigene of Imo State at the Government House, Owerri on Tuesday.<br />

Okorocha described the MBGN as a good example of what a youth should be, adding that her status as MISS NIGERIA would be an encouragement to other youths in the State.<br />

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the herdsmen would pay for the proposed establishment of ranches or grazing reserves by the federal government.<br />

He disclosed this on Thursday at the opening ceremony of a two-day summit on national security organised by the Senate in Abuja.<br />

Osinbajo further dispelled the speculations that the federal government would seize land from the state government for the establishment of the grazing reserves.<br />
<br />
He said, “Let me reiterate that on no account will any land be seized or forcefully taken to create ranches or grazing areas. All insinuations to that effect should be disregarded. No one is giving land to herdsmen, as is being falsely alleged.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
“Instead, it is in our view that states that are willing and have set aside land for development should cooperate with willing investors in commercially-viable, government-supported ranches or livestock production centres for commercial use.”<br />
<br />
He added, “There is also a clear sense which I think must be appreciated, that the Federal Government cannot dictate to states what to do with their land. This is so because the Land Use Act of 1978 puts land under the control of governors on behalf of their states.<br />
<br />
“Also, the Supreme Court in the case of the Attorney General of Lagos State versus the Attorney General of the Federation in 2004, held that the use of land resources and permits for such use lie firmly in the hands of state governments. Even for use of federal lands in the states according to the Supreme Court, building or development control permit must be sought from the governors of the states.”<br />
<br />
Osinbajo noted that some states, especially in the North, had duly gazetted grazing reserves and most of the grazing reserves are degraded and without pasture or water, especially during the dry season.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
He said that apart from states that had gazetted grazing areas, 13 states had agreed to allocate 5,000 hectares of land for ranching or livestock production.<br />
<br />
He said for optimal operation of the grazing reserves , they should be operated as ranches or livestock production centres on a commercial basis.<br />
<br />
Osinbajo said, “The ranches will have adequate water from boreholes, salt points and pasture. The locations would serve both as forage points and centres for providing extension services to boost animal care, feeding and veterinary facilities, and even abattoirs. Because the ranches are commercial ventures, cattle owners will pay for their use.<br />
<br />
“It is important to note that by and large, in consultation with stakeholders, all agree that where adequate provision is made on a commercial basis, there is no reason why there won’t be cooperation to use those ranches because there are both economic and social benefits for everyone, including herders.”

The elders, under the aegis of APC Elders Advisory Council of Plateau State, said when Buhari took over governance, he admitted that Nigerians would face challenges in the short term and then rejoice in the long run.<br />

Speaking in Jos, the state capital, Chairman of APC elders, Capt. Joseph Din, also endorsed Buhari for a second term.<br />
<br />
Din said the President has done very well in tackling insecurity, corruption and poverty; while he has also “improved the economy by battling recession, brought youth empowerment and created jobs.”<br />
<br />
According to Din, “We hereby unanimously endorse President Muhammadu Buhari as President of Nigeria come 2019 and Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong as governor of Plateau State come 2019.<br />
<br />
“We all know that this country was heading into economic recession already when Buhari took over in 2015.<br />
<br />
“It was largely due to the falling prices of crude oil in the international market and the long-term mismanagement of the economy by previous governments.<br />
<br />
<br />
“Nevertheless, this government has been able to steer us away from recession within the shortest possible time.<br />
<br />
“When President Buhari was taking over, he did not promise Nigerians that it was going to be rosy all through. He admitted that Nigerians were going to face challenges in the short term and then rejoice for a long time.<br />
<br />
“Due to his economic policies, we have started seeing the difference. For instance, Nigeria produced 15 million metric tonnes of rice in 2017 alone. We are the highest exporter of yams the world over and we are the largest producer of cassava the world over. This has reduced the country’s food importation bill.<br />
<br />

The Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu has bagged the Coalition of Civil societies in Nigeria' 2017 award for the Best Performing Minister in Nigeria.<br />

Announcing the coveted award in a statement signed by the Secretary of the Award and Privileges Committee, Patriot Wilson Attah, on behalf of the Board of Civil Society Coalition in Nigeria, the group noted that  Onu is the first serving official of government in the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration to receive this award.<br />
<br />
In a notification letter to the Minister on the meritorious award, the Civil Society Coalition in Nigeria noted that he bagged the award<br />
based on his "prudence, accountability, transparency, and patriotism displayed while discharging his duty as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the year under review."<br />
<br />
<br />
The statement read in part, "it may interest you to note that, Civil Society Organizations mostly criticized government and it's activities and in rare occasion, appraise its performance which today makes you the  first recipient of Civil Society Coalition Award as a serving cabinet member of the Buhari's administration. That makes this award very symbolic."<br />
<br />
The coalition is made up of civil society organisations drawn from across the six geopolitical zones of the country.<br />
<br />
The award is scheduled for presentation before the end of this month.

A 47-year-old former notorious cultist, ritualist and killer identified as Samuel Mwema Muli, from the Roysambu, Nairobi area of Kenya, who has killed more than 7,000 people from various parts of his country in less than ten years, has opened up on his ‘dark’past and what drove him to change.<br />

According to The Nairobian, the man’s satanic mission who was a preacher at a city church, began one afternoon in 1992 when he killed his 8-month-old son, a heinous act that saw him part ways with his first wife.<br />
<br />
Muli, who spent three years in jail for mentioning the names of powerful people as devil worshippers, said: “After graduation, I was employed by a news agency in Nairobi where I overheard fellow scribes talk about devil worshipping. I did not believe the talk. But what attracted me to it was the money.”<br />
<br />
Speaking further to a correspondent, he say one Thursday evening after work, he was walking outside the KPCU Building to his Majengo house when he stumbled upon a letter addressed to him. “It was an invitation to cover a fundraising event for street children,” he says.<br />
<br />
“I met a shamba boy (name withheld) dressed in black. He welcomed me saying the chief guest expected at the event was a powerful cabinet minister,” he claims.<br />
<br />
Muli says at the entrance, the shamba boy stripped unclad and took him to a woman who introduced herself as Francisca from Kiambu. “She pulled a drawer, counted crispy Sh75,000(N267,000) notes and handed them to me,” he claims.<br />
<br />
“When I arrived at about 5pm, I lied to my colleagues that I had hit a jackpot and invited them for drinks.”<br />
<br />
Muli says he spent the cash in three days and decided to go back to the hall one more time. “I met Francesca once more and she led me to another office where I saw three screens written ‘Kenya,’ ‘Uganda,’ and ‘South Africa,’” he claims.<br />
<br />
Inside the hall hung TV screens. On one of the screens, Muli says, he saw the face of his 18-month-old first born son. “Then a Unclad woman came, gave me a sharp razor, commanded me to cut the face of my son on the screen and gave me Sh85,000(305,000),” Muli adds.<br />
<br />
“Three days later, my son died mysteriously. His private parts and tongue were missing when we buried him.”<br />
<br />
Three months after the incident, he claims he was officially recruited as a member of the cult when the team leader took all his finger and toe prints. Thereafter, he started earning Sh9,000 every Friday, more money than the agency paid. So he quit.<br />
<br />
With a steady flow of easy cash, he claims, he invested in the transport business and acquired a fleet of buses that operated between Nairobi-Kisumu and Eldoret-Nakuru-Nairobi.<br />
<br />
Muli adds that in 1997, he sacrificed all the passengers aboard one of his buses near Kericho. “I was behind the grisly road accidents between Naivasha and Nakuru. I could board a bus or matatu and alight before the crash,” Muli claims.<br />
<br />
“That period, I fed on women breasts and two glasses of human blood daily. By the time I quit, the cult had more than 500 followers in Nairobi. But all my wealth was taken by the cult when I quit.”<br />
<br />
In 1997, Muli claims he quit when an angel appeared to him at night. “I woke up the following day at a church in Nairobi after falling nude from the ceiling and sending the faithful scampering for safety. The three women who remained covered my nudity The police were called, but since there was no damage on the ceiling, they left,” he claims.

The organised labour has submitted a fresh demand for higher minimum wage to the tripartite committee on minimum wage.<br />

The Nigeria Labour Congress stated that it had demanded above N56,000 to the committee to reflect inflation and other economic realities in the country.<br />

 The acting NLC President, Kiri Mohammed, disclosed this at the 11th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Civil Service Union on Thursday in Abuja.<br />
<br />
Mohammed, who declined to mention the exact figure the organised labour was demanding, explained that it was a joint decision between the NLC and the Trade Union Congress.<br />
<br />
He said, “We submitted our request, NLC has decided to look at the figure and modify it, we actually modified it, an upward review above N56,000, but I am not going to tell you how much because the president (Ayuba Wabba) is supposed to say it.<br />
<br />
“We have submitted it to the secretariat of the tripartite committee. The review is in conjunction with the TUC. You can’t do it alone, all of us met and decided to put heads together and look at the realities on the ground.”<br />
<br />
Reacting to reports that the new minimum wage might not be paid this year because it was not captured in the 2018 budget, the NLC chief expressed confidence that the minimum wage bill would be passed by the National Assembly and implemented by the Federal Government.<br />
<br />
Mohammed explained that the government would implement the recommendations of the tripartite committee on minimum wage, stressing that President Muhammadu Buhari was committed to implementing the outcomes of the ongoing negotiations for new wages for workers.<br />
<br />
He said, “Who made the budget?  I believe if they (government) are serious, we can finish this matter towards the middle of this year, June, July.<br />
<br />
“If we can finish at that time, then before the end of the year, certainly the President must send whatever we agreed to the National Assembly for them to look at it and for him to assent it as a law, but I know that once we agreed, government would implement whatever is agreed.”<br />

The acting NLC President, however, complained about the slow pace of negotiations by the tripartite committee, noting that it had not held any meeting since it was inaugurated.<br />
<br />
“We had an inaugural meeting and they have not called for a meeting, I won’t call it a deliberate delay, but it looks as if there is a deliberate delay. We have not started discussion or anything,” Mohammed said.<br />

Emerging report revealed the deadly Fulani herdsmen, on Thursday night, attacked villages in Logo Local Government Area in Benue State.<br />

The report shows that an undisclosed number of persons were in critical condition from gunshot wounds in the attacks by suspected herdsmen.<br />
<br />
“The victims are at NKST Hospital now in Anyiin”, Terkura Suswam, a Politician and Founder of Ashi Polytechnic in Anyiin said.<br />
<br />
Tsukwa is about a mile from Anyiin, which has a Police Special Forces Unit and one of the biggest camps for the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in Benue State.<br />
<br />
Another Anyiin resident who confirmed the attack to was Alijah Auna, the Secretary of the IDP camp there.<br />
<br />
“Yes, they have been attacking villages around Anyiin this night”, Auna said.<br />

Witnesses said the attackers had fled before Soldiers arrived at some of the villages.

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The two accomplices – Olapade Saheed, 32, and Olatunji Abiodun, 26 – were later caught with the deceased’s head and other body parts, leading to the arrest of Hamed and Tope Akinyele, 45, who claimed to be the pastor of a church in Ojagbo, in the Oranyan area of Ibadan.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hamed said he usually paid N2,500 for human flesh which he used in making money charm for his clients.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">He said, “Someone introduced Saheed and Abiodun to me. I gave them N2,500  to help me find human flesh. We all met at Ayegun junction, Ibadan.  Around 10pm, I took them to a grave where a body that was brought from Warri, Delta State, was buried.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“I took part in the prayers for the deceased before he was buried. I left them (Saheed and Abiodun) there, but they refused to let me go. They said they wanted to sleep in my house that night.  I got them a place close to my house.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“In the early hours of the second day, they came to me with a cellophane bag. I did not check what was inside, but I hanged it on the wall of my house. I was on my way to my office in Ile-Tuntun when I saw them in the midst of a crowd with a human head.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“I use human flesh to make money ritual for people and I pay N2,500 for the flesh. In this case, the charm was for myself. I did not ask them to cut off the head and it was not in my possession when the police came.”</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In his statement, Saheed said Alfa paid them N1,500 to do the job and that he took them to the grave of the deceased.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“Alfa called us for a job at Ayegun. When we got there, he showed us a grave three houses away from his house. After we finished the job (of exhuming and cutting off body parts), he took what he needed from the remains of the dead man and asked us to dispose of the rest.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“We left early in the morning.  But on our way, a local vigilance group stopped us and asked what was in the bag we carried. They beat us up after realising that there was a human head and other body parts in the bag. The police later came to arrest us,” he said.</span><br />
